Sailing Boat Plans – Things To Consider
Sail boats are one of the boat types which comes with many variation. These type of boats are entirely propelled by sails. Sail boat plans comes in several types which are mostly distinguished by its keel types, hull configuration, number and configuration of masts and purpose.
If you wish to build your own sailing boat, these are the several factors which you have to consider and most which has to be in place when using a sail boat plans.
To help you on deciding which type of sailing boat plans meets your needs, here are some of the more common types of sailboats:
SLOOP
One of the most common sailboat nowadays is the sloop. This type of sailboat is ver efficient for sailing towards the wind. It has one mast and two sails in its configuration.
CUTTER
This is more or less similar to a sloop as it has also one mast and mainsail. However, with its configuration, it is rarely considered a racing sailboat but offers more versatility and thus, is more of a cruising boat.
DINGHY
Dinghy are mostly used as small racing yachts or recreational sailing boats. It has simple operation and minimal maintenance. It has also the simplest configuration that’s why it is easier for a beginner in boat building to build this kind of sailboat. These are most common in youth sailing.
Whether you are planning to build a sloop or a cutter or a dinghy or any other type of sailboat, it is imperative that you work with a very good and workable sail boat plans.

can I turn my sail boat into a power boat?
I like the weekend living set up that a sailboat provides. I have a 25′ sailboat with a swing keel. Will it perform like a power boat on lakes and rivers? I am aware it will be a slow cruiser, which is ok, but I am concerned about stability (ie: rolling, tracking, ect) with the keel up when underway. Thanks!
your stability and tracking will be compromised over the normal hull speed it was designed for, plus the transom is not designed for anything more that a kicker motor, check the capacity plate, that’s the biggest motor you can use legally and safely
