Boatswain’s mate in the Coast Guard?
Does anyone know much about the Boatswain’s mate rating in the Coast Guard. It is about the only rating available in my area for the Reserve. Would making rank with this rating be very slow? What would I be doing I know on the Coast Guard website it says driving small boats and navigation. I figure I will be doing boat maintenance and cleaning… Is this the wrong assumption?
Your assumptions are correct, and the descriptions on the CG website are accurate.
While making rank in any rating involves hard work, BM is not particularly slow. In fact, it is potentially faster than many. It’s also a big rating, which means for people who are motivated to advance and study, there will always be opportunity to move up. Smaller ratings can become very congested in tight times – BM is not one of these.
