Southern Baptist Seminary examines sin Speakers: Talk admirable in a continuous series of subjects Peter Menkin

South guest speaker of the seminar examines the Baptist sin: talking admirable in a continuous series of topics
Peter Menkin

Guest speaker discusses the sin of the Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, Mill Valley, California for 40 minutes talking to students, friends, and the general public on the theme: "We can win our war against sin in our lives." Pastor Jim Fitzpatrick explains how belief affects behavior, citing Romans 6, the Bible in his admirable speech. Readers can hear the sermon in its entirety here.

Part of series of sermons by speakers, and the spokesman for the Authority for Southern Baptist Seminary, said: "… we often have the music (singing and instruments) before sermon – the singing of the public – like a worship service of the church. "Guests come to is in Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary (GGBTS) website here. Participants include students, faculty and staff. The public is invited, and according to the speaker, others may attend. For example, Robert Wilkins will speak selected by our Christian African American Grants. He is the pastor of young adults, Allen Temple Baptist Church and president and CEO of the YMCA of the East Bay, based in Oakland. "

Pastor Jim Fitzpatrick (Crosspoint Baptist Church) in Vancouver, Washington, spoke this writer.

Note that the comments of the sermon has been significantly informed then followed by comments in his sermon, Pastor Fitzpatrick, as indicated In an interview by e-mail with this writer. Pastor Fitzpatrick responded to questions from his home in Vancouver, Washington, which is near Portland, Oregon.

The preacher started preaching, "" Then we are told to live a holy life, Romans 6:11-14 tells us how. You can win its war against sin. "
Mr. Fitzpatrick graduated Doctor of Ministry from Golden Gate seminar, a seminary professor in the Pacific Northwest Campus.

The statement concludes GGBTS its report on the sermon "Fitzpatrick concluded, exhorting his listeners to a" fresh start every morning, you start every day and put his body and mind – to go before the Lord. This is the way to win in its war against sin. "

Interview with Pastor Jim Fitzpatrick

In his sermon that you say are your favorites Romans 6-8 (two). Tell me you are quoting, and citing or give me the text? The three chapters, Romans 6,7 and 8 are my favorite because of its emphasis on growth as Christians to become a holy people of God, we want to be. I especially Chapter 8:01 – There is therefore now no condemnation in Christ Jesus and 8:31-39, which teaches that believers are secure in Christ. It begins with no condemnation and ending with the separation of believers.

You mean the Bible as a reference and frequency source when speaking in the pulpit of Golden Gate Theological Seminary, led by the imperative R. Albert Mohler, Jr. and others who want South seminars Baptist to rely more heavily on the statement or biblical source? Or are there other reasons? No, I was not aware of what Dr. Mohler said. My belief is that the Bible is God's written communication to us. It is the source of power. My comments as a pastor or a teacher has no authority to themselves. The power / authority comes from the written Word of God (the Bible). I am one of those who are considered predictors of exposure. I always preach the Bible and usually work my way through entire books line by line, precept upon precept.

Is your work with the management of people driving in that sermon that you find relevant for students of the seminary, but not all may be so young? Yet they are students. What is your goal for students in the seminar as a ringtone? But I know that each of us, regardless of age the struggle with the same problems. For the believer who deeply desire to live a holy life, sin and temptation are still enemies. I thought it made sense to talk to that particular audience on the question of victory over sin, and that is something that all followers of Christ lives in our desire.

You say: "You can win its war against sin." I note that the use Romans 6: 11-14. What specifically know well? Why Paul and not inclined against Paul in their own faith and work as a pastor? These verses are very clear. God wants we have victory over sin. Each of the four verses that clearly teach or allude to it somehow. The victory over sin does not mean that will again be without sin in this life, but fewer and fewer sins as they apply the concepts found in these verses. I do not necessarily look at Paul in my preaching, but I like the 13 New Testament books which he wrote.

Although this issue has been touched, how Have you found the seminar different from other listener that you had the opportunity addressed in a sermon? Not sure. Again, my feeling is that all people have similar questions, questions, etc. Hang Ups I know that I meant some knowledge of the Bible and understanding it could be undertaken with an audience who knows the Scriptures as thoroughly as this hearing is.

Tell us few words about the man as a sinner, and why did you chose this subject? We are all sinners. We are born in sin and are ready to choose sin. I chose the topic because we are all in the same boat. We have all sinned, we all struggle, and we all need help beyond us to overcome sin.

I liked his statement that beliefs influence behavior. It is convincing and promising. Is there more to say why or how they think influence behavior? You mean more to readers? We act on what we truly believe. If we say we believe something, but never act, I guess we really can not believe at all. For example, as a disciple of Christ, I do not think there are many ways that God – faith in Jesus Christ. Because I think that motivates me share this truth with others.

You do not mention the devil, I remember. Is it a sin created by the devil? So many of people would like to know what you think you'll see in this article about his sermon on sin. Not I said the devil, simply because it is not mentioned in this passage. However, I certainly believe in the devil – The Bible talks a lot about Satan. We see in other passages that devil is a liar a murderer, a liar, etc. It certainly affects people in sin, even if they are responsible for our own sins. I do not think it correct to say the sin devil created. Sin entered the world when Adam and Eve yielded to the temptation of the serpent (the devil) for his own will. Jesus was tempted by the devil, but chose not to sin.

A logical consequence to the previous question, at least as occurs to me: Why does not the man ever without sin? In a study of the Bible, I attended recently in San Francisco Bay Area a man said no more hope because of Christ that we are forgiven sin. I thought he wanted and what I think. We can never be sinless in this life because we are all born with a sinful nature = a desire and ability to sin. The nature of sin does not disappear when we come to Christ. I totally agree with the man in the Bible study. Jesus came to bring forgiveness sins. When we put our faith and trust in Christ as our Savior, we receive forgiveness of our sins – past, present and future.

Believers are likely to be straight with you when you say, Sin is slavery. You are free to go, when emancipated, that history of Abraham Lincoln, he said. What is free? I heard you say in your sermon, which means "free to live with Jesus." Anything else? A person who is free to have options. The believers are free from the control of sin. We do not have to choose sin. Instead Therefore we have the freedom to make decisions that honor and please God.

His sermon is more optimistic, positive in his statements the promise of sin and Jesus Christ. You say: We can win in our war against sin in our lives. Have you met someone who losing its war against sin in your life? What have you done? I believe many Christians live defeated lives. The reason is often not only embrace the new life given to us. The Christians are not only improves people to become individuals. I regularly deal with People could barely walk with God and live the life that God requires / desires.

His sermon ends with the way sin is a matter of heart, and not the spirit. You tell a good story to illustrate this belief. In the sermon, which lasts about 40 minutes, and a Southern Baptist sermon may be longer, is not? My question is: Is this the work of the pastor to assist the heart only, and their characteristics Baptist in the bank? I agree that preaching effective mind, heart, and suddenly. Christianity is a religion of faith, but our faith is not a crazy leap in the dark. This rather a step in the light. The Christians were in the vanguard of the intelligentsia of our society. I think some Preaching is high volume but low in content. The problems we face in life are matters of the heart. We fight sometimes because our will is weak. Therefore, it is essential to keep in mind, heart, and preaching.

One last question, and is a long quotation from Luther to the end, so stay with me if you want. Your thoughts and wisdom are invited. Question: Is there a similarity in different ways to see the Christian sin. For example, the following quotation is from a list of internet discussion Monasticlife Yahoo. Please comment: Grace is the key word to understand what motivates God to be involved in our lives. Grace means that we receive it we do not deserve (salvation and forgiveness of sin among many other things). I think there is a different way that some define sin, but the Bible is clear that sin is "missing the mark" according to the moral standards of God in our lives. I will quote Luther. I'm not sure that none of we do not need encouragement to sin, we do pretty well now! However, the point seems to be that found in Romans 6:1-4. I would paraphrase by saying – "The deluge of our sin, overwhelmed by the flow of the grace of God."

Here the original cite works of Luther, Vol. 48 in a
letter he wrote to Philip Melanchthon, 1 August 1521. There is a note
Embedded in this number quote, sorry …

"If you are a preacher of grace, then preach a truth and not fiction
grace, if grace is true, it must be real and not a fictitious sin. God
not save people who are only fictitious; sinners. Be a
sinner and sin boldly, but we believe
and rejoice in Christ even more boldly, for he is
victory over sin, death, and in the world. While we're here [in the
the sin of the world, we must. This life is the home
justice, but as Peter said, we
hope new heaven and a new earth where justice
arrears. Just that: the riches of the glory of God
learned about the Lamb who takes away the sin of the world n sin separates us from the Lamb, even if we commit
adultery and murder thousands of times per day. Do you think the
purchase price was paid for the redemption of our sins
for so great a Lamb is too small? Pray boldly-you too are a sinner powerful
