This article is a basic guide to travel to Rotorua and evaluation noted the main places of the district.
Introduction:
If you had one day in the North Island of New Zealand and asked me where to contact to this day I have no hesitation said Rotorua.
This article is my personal guide to Rotorua from someone who has visited more times than I can remember, and if the opportunity, I would like to visit again. You are here:
Rotorua is about 2.5 to 3 hours drive south of Auckland. Go to the south through Hamilton and Cambridge, or a faster route through Mata Mata. Cambridge shortly after turn left and take the number 5, which will be entitled to Rotorua. Going head to Wellington to Lake Taupo and the number 5 in Rotorua. Train and bus service also Rotorua.
Attractions:
Rotorua is a jewel of the North Island, with geothermal wonders, a center of Maori culture, parks, lakes, natural history and many attractions today. Most visitors comment on the smell when they arrive. It is hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg gas) and although separate in the beginning, if you wait too long to adapt and barely notice it.
Geothermal Parks
The main parks in Rotorua geothermal and surrounding areas have Whakarewarewa Thermal Valley Volcanic Waimangu Wonderland Waitapu thermal Orakei Korako Geyserland and Hell Gate. All required payment.
Whakarewarewa:
By visiting this site is a standard rate in any visit to Rotorua. Unfortunately, the park has been divided into two parts, and I personally do not believe one of the sites have enough to alone. So what we used to get for a price of entry now costs two (warning). At the access road is the Hemo NZ Maori Arts and Crafts Institute with master carvers. It also includes a fabric house, home of Kiwi and Maori meeting house. Pohutu (Big Splash) and Prince of Wales geyser are also on that side. Waimangu volcanic valley:

Waiotapu Thermal Wonderland
My favorite, about 20 min. south of Rotorua Taupo. Be prepared to walk Abit. Many Rainbow Pool, huge champagne, artist palette sulfur vents, boiling mud and a large terrace of silica. If you arrive early in the morning before 10, a short drive to Mrs. Knox geyser has once per day by feeding them with soap, the cost is included in your income ($ 25 was an adult.) Orakei Korako Geyserland:

Hell's Gate:

Maori Culture
Rotorua Maori has many attractions based. These include the Tamaki Maori Village (I have not yet visited). New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute (oral), villages and buried many Hung and cultural performances.
Those buried it may seem, half-buried people. During the eruption in 1886, a number of local Maori were killed, buried in the mud. Some of these villages has been excavated and reconstructed to give visitors an idea of Maori.
I was not Tamaki Maori Village in for what he can not give an opinion.
If you really want to get a good taste of food Maori culture and hospitality, then book one of many festivals and concerts put on local hotels. The food, music and friendship are still the highest rate.
Other attractions
Rainbow Springs Park:
A beautiful park with trout as its centerpiece, beautiful clear water running and a bush high. beautiful walking trails and can feed the fish. See also attached a farm.
Skyline Skyride:
The main reason to take this tour gondola is not just to get to the top of the view, the main reason is the sled riding. mass entertainment, if not fall. They have a small ski lifts so you can surf on the sled, as long as your budget.
Agrodome:
All you need to know about sheep. Surprising a show about sheep and New Zealand is interesting and entertaining.
Rotorua Museum of Art:
One of the first buildings in New Zealand as tourists in mind. Originally built as a bathhouse with hot water and a treatment center has become now. good museum, but the highlight is the film about local history, sit down and make sure you support – a total multimedia experience. Final do. Building is one of the finest examples of Edwardian design and is a work of art in itself. The gardens that surround it are still very well maintained.
Natures Wonders
There are many things to do, totally free for nature lovers.
Huka Falls:
North of Lake Taupo in M1 is the Huka Falls and the famous Huka Falls Lodge (for the world's richest Novum). Huka Falls is free for all. Towards the beginning of the mighty Waikato River (the longest river in New Zealand), which is not the height of the fall, but the enormous volume of water is forced through what is impressive, few people have gone through the Falls and survived. Boat tours are now handled at the base of the fall for those who want a different perspective.
Whakarewarewa Forrest Park:
On the way blue and green lakes. Contains redwoods beautiful hiking trails and horseback riding. The sequoia is relatively young, but they are already enormously in size.
Gardens Government:
The exterior of the Rotorua Museum is well kept flower beds, rose gardens, bowling and much more.
Kuirau Park:
Around the main hospital of the road is Kuirau Kuirau park with numerous pools of boiling water and geothermal activities. Contains permanent pools relieve your pain in the feet and a playground with miniature train. On my last visit there was a gaping hole in the ground and downed trees in several or covered with mud due to a rash localized. It is a reminder of all the geothermal area is active and has the potential to be dangerous.
Blue and Green lakes
Whakarewarewa Forrest Park is past the blue lake, ideal for swimming or water activities, clear water with a depth pumice, more there is a problem with weeds. Continue on the road to get a view of Mt. Tarawera. Green Lake is prohibited and tapu (curse Maori, holy, special) and should not enter into it.
Mount Tarawera:
For lovers of true adventure. Take the way back and climb the Mount Tarawera. Enter the crater and spread the bottom at full speed. The huge crater was caused by the eruption of June 10, 1886 destroyed terraces of pink and white and buried many villages.
Lakes
The number of lakes is simply too numerous to mention. Ideal for trout fishing, boating or picnics. Some lakes even have black volcanic glass and / or pumice located on its shores.
Hamurana Springs:
To view an RSS feed beautiful spring, it is worth seeing, pure water with a touch of blue on white pumice bed fluid. It is also a stand of redwoods Nice and I would surprised if they do not "see the trout in the stream (no fishing permitted, sorry).
