Need help with something different building a boat dock, need a designer?
I need help designing a deck?
I need help designing a deck or dock? I have a beautiful lot on a lake and want a deck or dock over looking it. I want it on the water with a walkway to it. I am asking this because I am looking for something really unick or different. I am landscaping all the lot with bushes, trees and ivy. It is on a hill side with big beautiful trees all around. I can send pictures if anyone can help. The dock will also be used to tie our boats up to. We will use it lots to just set and enjoy and fishing off of it. I have lots of kids that will love to play on it also. Don’t want the average dock, when someone first looks at it I want them to say ” Wow, what a dock! ” This is a shot I am taking, I have been trying to plan this for months and still have not come up with a plane
I would build a deck in a octagon shape (8) sides. With the back edge on land and the rest protruding out over the water.
On each corner place a vertical post 8 ft. high and in center of deck place a post 12 ft high. Then using 2×4 for rafters place 2×4 running from top edge of vertical posts to center post, this will require some cutting at center post on rafters but you be able to figure it out.
this will give you gazebo design. use metal for roof or plywood and shingles. If you make each side of the octagon 4 ft or better this will give you a good size deck. if you can not protrude over water just back it up on land. I would build a floating deck at least 12 ft. long by 8 ft, you simply build a frame using treated 2×6 and then deck boards. use plastic drums placed in between 2×6 frame to float it, this will make a excellent swim platform and you can cover it with indoor, outdoor carpet to prevent splinters.
place this in front of deck in water, I would build a set of stairs going down from deck to float deck of course you can not attach to float deck but you get close. You will have to anchor float deck to keep in position. You will have to get creative with this but I will try and explain with out a drawing.
connect a pipe or rod to float deck and then to a post in ground, you will need a hinged device to let the platform be able to rise and fall with water.
on the gazebo you can build hand rails from each post and use lattice to fill in also use lattice around bottom of deck.if you want a drawing you can write me at mike newell 25071 cty hwy 49 loxley al 36551, hope this helps.
